Wood flooring professionals can strengthen their technical skills through two intensive, four-day workshops presented by the American Sports Builders Association at The Ohio Floor Company’s portable warehouse facility in Holmesville, Ohio. The back-to-back courses combine structured classroom sessions with hands-on court work, giving participants direct experience with essential preparation, coating and maintenance processes.
The Sanding and Repair workshop will take place November 2-5, 2026. Instruction will cover starting and closing out a sanding job, selecting equipment and abrasive grits, completing large-area and single-board repairs and installing volleyball sleeves and electrical boxes. Participants will also explore the differences between sealers and finishes, including oil- and water-based options.
The Painting and Finishing workshop is scheduled for November 9-12, 2026. Attendees will learn how to lay out lines, letters and logos; use stencils and patterns; work with tinted stains; and paint lines, borders and logos. Floor maintenance topics will include cleaning products, mops, covers and mats, as well as considerations for recoated and newly installed floors.
Each workshop is limited to 16 participants, with no more than two attendees per company. The $495 registration fee includes breakfast pastries, lunch and refreshments. Participants are responsible for travel, accommodations and additional meals or expenses.
The training will also contribute to a larger community effort. The portable floor used during the workshops is being purpose-built for an annual Special Olympics basketball tournament in Holmesville, Ohio. Once completed, the floor will be preserved and returned to the court each year, connecting the participants’ craftsmanship with an ongoing event for athletes, families and fans.
