Weather conditions can quickly interrupt outdoor work, forcing crews to weigh safety risks against the need to keep projects moving. For contractors and other outdoor professionals, having accurate, real-time weather information can determine whether work continues safely or crews are forced to shut down unnecessarily. Flash Weather AI, featured in this episode of From the Ground Up™, is designed to give organizations clearer, more precise data so they can make those decisions with greater confidence. During the conversation, Jameson Allen, business development representative for Flash Weather AI, explained that the company was founded by CEO Jason Dease, a meteorologist who previously worked as a forensic research meteorologist with the National Weather Service for more than two decades. According to Jameson, the company’s early focus was on helping people make safer decisions around lightning events.
Before lightning prediction technology existed, most systems relied on detection, which only alerts users after a strike has already occurred. Flash Weather AI instead analyzes incoming weather data and historical patterns to forecast potential lightning threats in advance. “With our platform specifically, up to 60 minutes in advance, we're telling you down to the minute and down to your address level exactly what time the first threat of a lightning strike is possible,” Jameson said.
The system processes large volumes of weather data using an in-house artificial intelligence platform that compares current atmospheric conditions with nearly 30 years of historical weather data. According to Jameson, this allows the platform to deliver highly localized forecasts that can help outdoor crews respond more quickly to changing conditions.
Safety remains the central goal, but Jameson said the technology also improves operational efficiency. “When you have this kind of data, it actually eliminates confusion and gray areas,” he explained.
Flash Weather AI also provides a web-based Weather Command Center, a mobile app and optional alert hardware such as siren and strobe systems that automatically activate when lightning threats are detected. These tools allow teams working across multiple jobsites to receive immediate notifications and coordinate responses without relying solely on manual monitoring.
Beyond lightning prediction, the company continues developing additional forecasting tools designed to support industries that depend on weather-sensitive operations, including construction, sports venues and other outdoor workplaces.
