Norris Legue, founder of Synthetic Surfaces Inc. and creator of NORDOT® Adhesives, was the chemist who, in the 1960s, developed the first one-part urethane adhesive that successfully installed a synthetic turf football field, when the industry was just emerging. 

Designing adhesives that could perform yearround in all weather conditions required Norris to attend installations across the country. His research and field experience led him to conclude that the most reliable adhesives for outdoor artificial turf are onepart, solventbased, moisturecured urethanes that provide strong initial grab (“green strength”) during installation.  

The Synthetic Surfaces Inc. (SSI) name was originally chosen because the company specialized in adhesives for installing synthetic turf, flooring, sports and recreational surfaces. What is Green Strength?

Green strength (grab and tack, not oily or slippery) is the property that gives an adhesive the ability to hold two surfaces together when first contacted and before (still “green”) the adhesive develops its ultimate bonding properties when fully cured. 

High green strength is especially critical for outdoor installations. It helps prevent common installation issues such as separation, curling, bubbling, lifting, creeping, slipping and wrinkling during installation without resorting to excessive rolling and/or sand bagging across a range of outdoor materials that are affected by temperature changes and wind.

Airless Spray Adhesives

NORDOT® Airless Spray Adhesives are one-part, solvent-based urethanes with exceptionally high green strength (grab, tack, grip). They deliver excellent coverage with negligible overspray and minimal airborne mist, making them very useful for bonding long seams and total glue-downs, even in adverse weather. They are easy to use and have superior fresh and salt water resistance and exterior durability. 

A key advantage of NORDOT® Airless Spray technology is its unique spider-web spray pattern which keeps porous surfaces fully water permeable by preventing adhesive from flowing into and clogging surface pores.  

Packaged in closed-head 55-gallon drums, they are designed for efficient airless spray application directly from the drum, making them ideal for total glue-downs and large-area installations.

Newtonian Adhesives

NORDOT® Newtonian Adhesives are one-part, solvent-based urethanes with a smooth, syrup-like consistency that pours easily and levels and flows, for controlled coverage on smooth to lightly textured surfaces with non-porous base layer. 

NORDOT® Newtonian Adhesives deliver exceptional green strength (grab, tack, grip), long-term exterior durability, and excellent fresh and salt water resistance.  

Packaged in five-gallon pails with pour spouts, they can be applied by squeegee, trowel, roller, brush, or squeeze bottle without mixing or temperature restrictions.  They are used for both large and smaller installations including recreational, landscaping, and aquatic surfaces.

Thixotropic Adhesives

NORDOT® Thixotropic Adhesives are one-part, solvent-based urethanes with a mayonnaise-like consistency that is easy to control and holds trowel ridges, even on vertical surfaces. They are ideal for bonding smooth to rough textured surfaces. 

NORDOT® Thixotropic Adhesives deliver exceptionally high green strength (grab, tack, grip), long-term exterior durability, and excellent fresh and salt water resistance.  

Packaged in open-head five-gallon pails, these adhesives can be applied using a glue box, squeegee, trowel, or roller, without mixing or temperature restrictions.
