This past summer Susan Wyant was able to put two Daich Coatings products to work to update her front porch. First she used Rock Patch™ to fix some cracks, then RollerRock® in a Harvest Tan color to provide a new surface.
Rock Patch filler, level and resurfacer is made with a tough polymer/stone formula, and the pre-mixed compound comes out of the container ready to use. The cement-free product requires no messy mixing and can be used as a prep work step on both interior and exterior surfaces. Simply pop the lid, stir and apply.
“Whether you need to fill cracks and holes on concrete walkways or smooth out the surface of a garage floor before recoating, Rock Patch is the solution,” says Peter Daich, president of Daich Coatings. “This odorless product has flexibility to it and can be worked with slowly. It doesn’t dry quickly like concrete. Take your time to smooth it into the location you wish to repair. Then let it dry to create a rock hard surface.”
Rock Patch completely resurfaces the area needed, forming a firm bond to the underlayment. The dry Rock Patch finish is impact, salt and moisture resistant.
“Rock Patch worked great,” says Susan, a New York homeowner. “We filled two deep cracks about ¼-inch at a time. Our patience paid off. It fully covered the gap and left a smooth finish!”
After the Rock Patch surface dried it was time to get the entire porch ready for a new surface. The old porch had been badly neglected over four decades. Susan invested a good deal of time cleaning and etching the porch to prep the project.
Next up from the Daich Coatings product line: RollerRock® rollable stone coating. A tough, decorative concrete coating made from real stone, the product comes pre-mixed in a self-priming formula the rolls onto surfaces. RollerRock’s high performance formula resists water, stains, impact and abrasion. Plus, it stands up to all climate extremes from harsh UV rays and heat to sub-zero winter conditions.
The Wyants used a paddle mixer drill attachment to make sure they got to the bottom of the RollerRock container and thoroughly mix the product. Susan shared a bit about the process:
We applied the RollerRock with the roller only on the first coat. It was a personal decision to switch to a special 8-inch wide brush for the second coat. I felt it gave me more control over spreading it versus the roller. We also found that it was easier to do this project on a cooler, cloudy day versus a sunny, hot day. Now that it’s complete it looks like new. Our family thinks it looks great!
