To learn more about this industry leader, Karol Weyman hosted Brittainy Klein and Rachel Mohorn for an episode of OutdoorTalk™.  

Rachel is the director of marketing for Heritage Landscape Supply and Brittainy is marketing director at Heritage Pool Supply. The duo started by sharing some more context to who Heritage is and their mission, with Rachel explaining, “We're still in our infancy in terms of how many years we've been under the name Heritage Supply Group. However, with the acquisitions across the country, some of these companies have been around for over 100 years, and so the amount of knowledge is just incredibly deep. It really speaks to our slogan, Deep Roots, Shared Vision.”   

And building a network through acquisitions is just one of the ways that Heritage is leading the outdoor industry. They are also creating a connected digital community through their partnership with OutdoorCoffeeShop™ and building bridges with other organizations and professionals outside of the outdoor industry with the Heritage Cares foundation. Brittainy explained a bit of what this foundation does:  

Heritage Cares is how we give back to our communities and support those that are in need. From a pool standpoint, we throw a concert and host an auction at NESPA every year, and all the money that we raise on tickets and the auction goes back to Heritage Cares. One of our biggest initiatives is supporting Step into Swim, which is an organization that works to provide children in communities swim lessons. 

Rachel shared what the landscape group does, saying, “On the landscape side, our big Heritage Cares initiative is Project Evergreen, which is an organization that works to expand green spaces across the United States (like parks, football fields, etc.) and operates the Green Care for Troops program which is all about helping military families care for their yards when their loved ones are deployed.”  

Overall, Heritage is a leader in the outdoor industry not just because of the impressive numbers their networks boast, but because of the ways they go above and beyond through Heritage Cares and their online initiative.

• Katy, Texas and Olathe, Kansas: Likewise, the July 11, 2026, Quarter Finals Double Header will be hosted from two locations – the Heritage Katy Branch (2737 W Grand Pkwy N) in Texas and the SRS Olathe Branch (550 Old Hwy 56) in Kansas.  
• Joppa, Maryland and Tampa, Florida: And last but not least, for the finals that are held on July 19, 2026, the XTV team will have two tailgates. One at the Joppa Heritage Branch (12140 Pulaski Hwy) and one at the SRS Tampa Branch (14212 N Nebraska Ave).

Has this happened to you? You're driving past a job you finished last season, and the sprinklers are running at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday, water streaming down the driveway, pooling at the curb, going nowhere useful. Nobody called it in. Nobody noticed. But guess what? Your name is all over that system. 

That's the kind of thing that keeps contractors up at night, and it's exactly the kind of thing that smart irrigation is designed to prevent. 

Start with the controller 

The biggest single upgrade you can make to any irrigation system is the controller. Systems like the Hunter Hydrawise and Rain Bird ESP-TM2 with WiFi don't just run on a timer. They adjust automatically based on real-time weather data. If it rained last night, they know. If temperatures drop, they adjust. Your customer's lawn gets watered when it needs it, not just because it's Wednesday. 

For you, that means fewer callbacks, fewer overwatering complaints and a system that looks like it was designed by someone who thought it through. That's the kind of trust that turns one job into ten referrals. 

Put the right nozzles on the job 

Traditional spray nozzles throw water out fast... we're talking faster than most soils can absorb it. The result is runoff, misting and uneven coverage. Hunter MP Rotator Nozzles and Rain Bird R-VAN Nozzles work differently. They apply water slowly and evenly, giving it time to soak in where it belongs. 

Pair them with pressure-regulated spray bodies like the Hunter Pro-Spray PRS40, and you eliminate the misting that happens when the pressure gets too high. What that means is less waste, better coverage and a system that performs consistently across the whole zone. 

Don't forget the beds 

Turf gets most of the attention, but planting beds, trees and shrubs are where a lot of water gets wasted. Overhead spray in a bed is inefficient; most of it never reaches the root zone. Drip irrigation changes that entirely. Rain Bird XF Dripline and Hunter HDL Dripline deliver water right where the plant needs it, at the root level, with minimal evaporation. Plants establish faster, perform better and your customer notices the difference come midsummer when everything still looks healthy. 

Zone smart, schedule smart 

Products can only do so much if the system design isn't right. Grouping plants with similar water needs into the same zone is one of the simplest things you can do to improve efficiency. A drip zone running on the same schedule as a turf zone is a problem waiting to happen. Take the time to zone it right from the start, and the rest of the system has a chance to do its job. 

So now what? 

Water-wise landscaping isn't about doing less. It's all about doing it better. The contractors who are investing in smart controllers, efficient nozzles and drip solutions are the ones whose customers call them back season after season. Not because they sold them something fancy, but because the system works, the water bill went down and nobody's watching their money run down the street.

Founded in 1916 by Charles Fiore, Sr. and headquartered in the Chicago, Illinois area, Fiore Nursery is owned and operated today by the Fiore family, with the fourth-generation currently serving in executive leadership roles. The Company covers a large service area, operating from its headquarters in Lake Zurich and a second location in Chicago with a combined team of 40 people. David Fiore, co-owner and president, will continue to lead Fiore Nursery’s dedicated team, ensuring continuity and consistency for customers, suppliers and employees.

Leaders discuss growth and culture, technology and community as OutdoorCoffeeShop™ brings outdoor industry professionals together.  

Heritage Professional Products Group joined the launch of OutdoorCoffeeShop™ as a premier sponsor with a focus on connection across the outdoor trades. During the debut episode of From the Ground Up™, host Karol Weyman welcomed Rachel Mohorn and Brittainy Klein for a conversation centered on how growth and culture scale together while community remains the constant.  

Founded in 2018 with the acquisition of CPS Distributors, Heritage began as a regional operation serving Colorado and Wyoming. Today, the company supports and distributes more than 40 brands through over 230 locations across 37 states. Rachel traced that expansion back to a deliberate mindset. “Growth only works if you stay grounded in who you are and who you serve,” she said, emphasizing that scale has never replaced relationships.  

That philosophy shows up beyond branch counts. Rachel pointed to experiential events, the traveling XTV and the Heritage Cares initiative as ways the organization keeps teams and customers connected. “It’s about showing up locally and making sure our people and customers feel supported wherever they are,” she said. 

Brittainy outlined a parallel trajectory on the pool side of the business, which launched in 2021 and now operates 22 DBAs across 150 locations in 36 states. She emphasized shared resources and learning opportunities for customers, noting that training, education and collaboration help contractors expand services with confidence.  

Both leaders described OutdoorCoffeeShop as a natural extension of that mission. Rachel called it “a place contractors can go for trends, news and the real stories happening in the field.” Brittainy echoed that sentiment, highlighting the value of authentic voices and peer-to-peer insight that help contractors learn from one another.
